"Is There a Book in You?" 3-Hour Publishing, Book Marketing and Branding Teleseminar for Aspiring and Future Bestselling Authors Featuring Kim Brooks And Her "Dream Team"
I can remember the day God gave me the idea for my first book like it was yesterday.
I had no clue where to start - all I knew is I loved to write (ever since I was 8-years-old) and that it was my dream to become a published author. The next thing I did was pray daily each morning and seek out information. Well, I ultimately found information about an upcoming local meeting for aspiring authors. Little did I know the person I met at that meeting would end up being the publicist, Pam Perry, who catapulted my career to national level through media exposure. I also, ultimately met the person who would be my book cover designer, and from continuous prayer and allowing God to order my steps I next met my editor. With my team in place (for in order to accomplish anything noteworthy you have to have a great team; I like to call them my ‘dream team’) I was well on my way to publish my first novel.
The interesting thing I discovered along the way is that writing is actually the easy part.
The real work came, and you’ll find this to be true, as well, for your first book, when it was time to market and promote the book to the masses.
Sure it’s a great idea to have a big book launch to invite all of your family and friends, but once they buy the book then what? Then you have to sell to people you don’t even know yet are still interested in what you have to say in your book. Well, to God be the Glory because He blessed me with a first novel that’s been read by well over 20,000 people nationwide.
At one point the demand was greater than the inventory; I remember having 5,000 books printed at one time to cover demands from my national distributors which sold to then Borders, Barnes and Noble, Family Christian Bookstores as well as smaller bookstores.
All this happened while it was a self-published book (I initially decided to self-publish without even pursuing a publisher after reading Dan Poynter’s The Self Publishing Manual, a must read for all aspiring authors, and receiving advice from bestselling authors) it was only until after 2 years of it being self-published and over 12,000 copies sold later did I decide it was time to pursue a major publishing house because I felt all the work of running a publishing company (yes, when you self-publishing you automatically go in business for yourself, your ‘product’ is your book) was taking away from my ability to write.
So, I invested more money in my dream and traveled to book conferences, networked and eventually met my agent who help me land a five-figure deal with a major publisher of women’s fiction, Harlequin, to be exact, who had just purchased an imprint of BET which included an inspirational imprint as well. Praise the Lord! All the while, I continued to take classes, attend conferences and educate myself on the publishing industry while still appearing on radio and TV shows and speaking in churches nationwide promoting the book and its message (He’s Fine…but is he Saved? Hello? Lol)
During my journey, I’ve met so many people along the way with great book ideas but, because of lack of knowledge, spent their money in the wrong places to have their book published by someone who was mainly just after their rights and royalties, or used a print-on-demand company (which are so popular now, back when I initially self-published there was no print-on-demand, I had to pay over 3 grand to print a minimum order of 1,000 so POD definitely has its advantages – you just have to go with the right one) that forced them to charge way more than what it’s worth (for example I had one lady tell me she had to charge $25 for her paperback book because the print-on-demand company made her) and I’ve come across other horror stories that I decided to host a 3-hour teleseminar with my dream team: my publicist, book cover designer and editor, that describes all about the publishing industry, how to market your book, book branding, how to build your platform, determine your target audience and so much more. Actually, here’s a breakdown of all that’s covered on the call:
*How to maintain the rights to your book to make sure no one steals your ideas.
*The pros and cons of self-publishing vs. signing a book deal with a traditional publisher to help you determine which route you should take.
*The different costs associated with publishing your book and how you can publish it today for a fraction of what it cost 9 years ago due to advanced technology.
*How to effectively market your book on a budget.
*How you become an instant business owner when you self-publish your book and 3 things you must do now to legitimize your business and protect your personal assets.
*2 ways you can author a book without your writing a single sentence.
*How to publish an ebook and put it up for sale in less than 48 hours and how to determine its price.
*What you must do now at no or low cost before your book is released to ensure its overall success.
*How, once you have your cover and content you can have your book published for absolutely Free.
*7 Secrets to Success in the Publishing World.
*How building your brand and platform could land you a lucrative book deal.
*How the publishing game has changed since 9 yrs ago and how you can still get in the game and win!
And here’s detailed information about my ‘dream team’ joining me on the call:
