Must Have Book for Aspiring Authors

I believe to master an industry, no matter what it is, there is a book that paves the way and provides an appropriate outline to guide ones success.
Well, I believe that book for the publishing industry is Dan Poynter’s, The Self-Publishing Manual.
I read this book before I wrote my first novel and the information contained within its over 400 pages was just what I needed. It taught me how when I self-publish I immediately become a business owner with my ‘product’ is my book and how writing is an art form while publishing is a business so it has to be treated as such.
Since I had absolutely no business experience, and am a right-brained, artist-type by nature, I read this book as if it were the only thing to guide me as far as how to successfully run a publishing company. Along with doing just that, he even talks about how to handle shipping, pricing, collections and setting up distribution channels. He even goes in detail about the benefits of initially self-publishing versus pursuing a book deal with a major publisher which aided in my decision to self-publish.
He gives all the ins and outs of the publishing world, how what you write about you’re immediately an expert about, and the back of the book even provides a calendar of what to do when while you’re self-publishing your book (for example, it may suggest while your book is being edited, take this time to have your book cover designed, or how you should register for your ISBN number now because it takes so long before you receive your number that you don’t want to wait until you’re ready to go to print before getting that taken care of).
He also talks about what things you can write off on your taxes, different ways to register your publishing business and so much more.
I used to carry Dan’s book around so much that others jokingly teased me about how worn and beat up it eventually became. It was my baby, or shall I say, in a sense my publishing “bible.” It taught me every thing I needed to know and truly helped me, a then clueless person who knew absolutely nothing about self-publishing, and gave me the proper direction as far as how to successfully and legitimately run a publishing company and self-publish my first book.
I highly recommend any current or aspiring author get this book right away.

I know for a fact you’ll get a lot out of it and that it’ll help you tremendously, just like it helped me.
